PUNO-COPACABANA-SUN
ISLAND-COPACABANA-PUNO
Departure at 6.30 in the morning by bus from Puno to the Bolivian town of
Copacabana (3 hours). Visit of the town and its Cathedral dedicated to the Dark
Virgin. Continue to the Island of the Sun by Catamaran, lunch on board. The
first stop is at the Pilkokaina Temple.The second one is at the South side and
includes visits to the Inka Garden, Inka Steps and Water Springs as well as the
Sun Island Ethno Eco Complex, where the Kallawaya ancient ceremony will be held.
Return by Catamaran to Copacabana and by bus to Puno. Arrival around 17.00 hours
in Puno.
PUNO-LA PAZ OR VICE-VERSA BY

a)
Via Tiquina Strait.
Departure from Puno by private transportation. En route, stop at the village of
Chuquito, then at Juli, the "Aymara Rome" where you can see the
different styles of construction as well as the amazing art legacy of paintings,
stone work and architecture and in Pomata where the church is built of red
sand-stone and the interior is completely carved. After crossing the
Peru-Bolivian boundary, arrival in Copacabana, the main centre of peregrination
of Bolivia, whose Cathedral holds the famous Dark Virgin of Copacabana.
Bordering the Lake Titicaca continuation to the Strait of Tiquina. This narrow
strait connects the eastern and western shores of the lake. The crossing is made
by ferry-boat and the trip continues on the east banks of the lake. Arrival in
La Paz . Lunch en route. Note: The road between Puno, Copacabana and La Paz is
now paved.
b) Via Desaguadero and visit to the
Tiahuanaco ruins.
Same as a) till the crossing of the Peru/Bolivian border, which is in
Desaguadero. Continuation to the port of Guaqui and on to the Tiahuanaco
complex, one of the oldest cultures in America, with great development in
pottery, stone construction and agriculture. Visit to the ruins and temples of
this large complex. Arrival in La Paz. Lunch en route. Note: The road between
Puno, Desaguadero and La Paz is now paved.
VISIT TO THE SUASI ISLAND, LAKE
TITICACA.
The Suasi Island lies off the eastern shore of Lake Titicaca. (3,812 meters) The
new lodge built on this 44 hectares unique island, a protected area, can be
reached either directly by boat from Puno (4 hours) or by road
Puno-Juliaca-Huancané-Moho to the embarcation point (172 Km in 4 hours). From
there it takes 10 minutes to reach the island. The infrastructure of this hotel
and its use of solar energy are designed to protect the environment, with a
priority on reforestation of the nature reserve with native species. It has 2
singles, 4 twin and 6 triple rooms all with private bath. Depending on the
length of the stay, possibilities of hikes around the island to observe flora
and fauna, participation in agricultural work, water sports, sailing, rowing and
fishing, visit to neighboring communities.
