Kuelap: Pre-Columbia Odissey. Recent amazing discoveries in nearby areas that relate to Kuelap and to its history have captured the attention of archaeologists, international magazines and film companies. Box Lunch. Following your visit to Kuelap, you will return to Chillo for the night. On the way you will have the opportunity to stopover to observe the burial towers of Macro, an outpost of the Chachapoyas culture built into cliffs overlooking the Utcubamba River. It’s unique location allowed for contact via signal fires with the fortress, high above in the mountains and visible through a cleft in the valley hills.

 ITINERARY 

 1st DAY: LIMA - IQUITOS - HELICONIA

Transfer  from your hotel in Lima to flight to Iquitos the entrance to the wildlife and natural reserves of the Amazon rainforest . Arrival and transfer to Bellavista Port, on the shores of the Nanay River,  leave by riverboat to visit the Boras Indians of San Andres (Momon  River) and we observe their dances and purchase.

Later,  we travel for an hour and fifteen minutes by the Amazon River to Yanamono  Forest Reserve at 80 km. downstream from Iquitos where the Heliconia  Amazon River Lodge is located. Reception and welcome with a refreshing  cold drink, lodging and lunch.

In  the afternoon, a 2 hours (approx.) introductory walk in the jungle  with expert guides, identifying botanical species, medicinal plants and  amazing trees such as the "LUPUNA", a forest giant prized as raw  material for plywood and return to the lodge. Later we can observe a  beautiful Amazonian sunset, and enjoy the magic sounds of the jungle. At  night walk by the Yanamono Lagoons, observing constellations and the eyes  of the caiman reflected in the lights of our flashlights, and other  amphibians. Dinner  and lodging.

 2nd DAY: HELICONIA

Very early,  we start a first bird watching tour and see the world famous  Victoria Regia water lilies.

Breakfast in the Lodge. At 10:00, we start a tour around the  creek Yanamono, where we visit a sugar cane mill and learn about rum  preparation through fermentation and distillation. Return to the Lodge for  lunch.

 In  the afternoon, we  participate in a fishing tour in the "quebradas"  ( creeks) or "cochas" or lagoons of the Amazon River with  an expert guide. The most experienced fishers will feel the emotion of  catching piranhas and other varieties of Amazon.

 During  this journey, we will observe the shy pink and gray dolphins or river  porpoises. Return to the Lodge. Dinner. Lodging.

3rd DAY: HELICONIA  - MAZAN - SUCUSARI

Breakfast  at the Heliconia Lodge. continuing your Amazon adventure. At an opportune   hour, transport to a lodge located at 30 Km. from Heliconia. After the  arrival, we will begin an excursion in the jungle. Lunch.

After  lunch we leave to the Mazan dry dock, which is located between the Napo  and Amazon River, at the arrival, a riverboat will waiting  for us to  continue the trip to the rustic lodge located in a reservation of 113 000  hectares. (bathrooms and showers are shared and are constructed near  the rooms having two or three beds, each one with a mosquito net).

 After  accommodation, we make a short excursion to a medicinal plants botanical  garden.

Dinner with Kerosene lamps light. A night walk and ride in canoe, through  the Quebrada of Sucusari, where the silence of the night is interrupted by  the exotic yet mysterious sounds of the inner jungle.

 4thDAY:  ACCER - CANOPY WALKWAY

Very  early, a bird-watch and excursion in the surroundings of the lodge and the Quebrada.

After breakfast,  we walk the famous CANOPY WALKWAY, a suspension bridge, located between and on the treetops it's over 500 meters longer, connected by 12 platforms and reaching an altitude of  more than 37 meters over the ground level. From here, we are able to  observe this part of the jungle, which is rarely seen or known by man.

 In  the afternoon, after lunch, excursion in riverboat or walk in search for  some fauna species. Dinner and spend the night.

 5th DAY: CASERIO - IQUITOS - LIMA

After breakfast, we visit a homlet where we will be able to observe living customs and  traditions of the Amazonian People. Early lunch and return to Iquitos.  Arrival  and transfer to the airport to take the return flight.
